More than likely "The Burning Hills/Smoky Hollow" in what is now known as The Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument, Utah. Said to be the result of Coal fires burning underground, caused through ignition by some time forgotten lightning strike. The overlying rock has become chemically altered - discolored due to the intense and un-ending heat. Capt.PickyMoab, Utah1 vote Login to vote
