Las Vegas billboard in Long Beach, CA | CT Owens | California | 3 | |
Information from the billboards As well as the obvious billboard for the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas (demolished June 30, 1996), there's a less legible sign beneath for Sunset Motors.
Founded in 1961, Sunset was a dealer of motor homes that, as of March 1973, became a dealer for Revcon. As of January 1977, they were advertising themselves as the "Exclusive West Coast Revcon dealer"; by late 1992, they were bankrupt, their founder and owner having committed a $2.8 million fraud.
The same sign also bears the Revcon El Dorado brand; El Dorado signed an agreement to acquire RV-maker Revcon on 25 August, 1976.
Period Sunset Motors locations included 2165 Long Beach Boulevard, Long Beach CA (1973), 22006 Recreation Rd., Carson CA (1977) and Traveland USA, 6441 Burt Rd., Irvine CA (1978). At least some Sunset locations seem to have later been taken over by Altman's RV Centers / Altman's Winnebago, before the latter went out of business in 2011. | gweilo8888 | Knoxville, TN |
