The children in this scene are clearly Khmer (Cambodian) in appearance. This scene was filmed during the Vietnamese occupation of Cambodia in the late 1980s. It is most likely in Phnom Penh. For me this is the most moving scene in Baraka. The look in the children's eyes is so deep and so human, it conveys the losses and horrors of war but also the joy and spirit of childhood.
